Seattle: Boeing Plant and Hiram M. Chittenden Locks

We spent the morning shopping in the Seattle Premium Outlets. These are located in Tulalip, about an hour north of Seattle by car via Interstate 5. If, like us, you want to buy larger quantities in a shop, you should definitely get the coupon booklet at the information desk. This actually costs 5 USD or you have to prove that you are registered with the Premium Outlets VIP Club. We had an account, but unfortunately no WLAN to prove this. However, we were able to talk to the woman at the information desk until she gave in and handed us a booklet just like that.

After 4 hours of shopping, we needed a refreshment before we wanted to go back to Seattle. On the opposite side of the interstate there was a Carl's Jr. Also a favorite on our fast food hit list – an original six dollar burger is something nice.

Boeing Works – Paine Field

On the way back to Seattle, we had to make a stop at the Boeing plants in Everett and Mukilteo. We started our tour around Paine Field at the paint and production halls. The huge doors of the production hall are now printed with a 747, on my last visit the 787 still adorned the façade.

We stopped at various points on our way around the airport or the factory premises, some of which are nice elevations where you can take pictures of the planes without a disturbing fence. And if there is no mountain, then you just stand on the car. Loosely based on the saying:"don't be gentle its a rental". A wide variety of models from 777, 747 and 787 could be found on the site. The saddest thing was a partially dismantled Dreamliner.

Hiram M. Chittenden Locks

At the end of the day we drove to the Hiram M. Chittenden Locks. Built in 1911, this lock, also known as the Ballard Locks, allows ships to travel between the salt water of Puget Sound and the fresh fresh water of the canal, which flows eastward into Lake Union and Lake Washington. A special highlight for us was the accessible fish ladder. Through glass panes below the waterline, we could observe how the salmon can switch back and forth between salt and fresh water. The attached park is also great.
