Our second hotel on the island of Langkawi was the Berjaya Langkawi Resort. Upon our arrival at 2 p.m., our room, or rather the Rainforest Chalet we had booked, was not yet ready. The reception process was very unprofessional for a 4-star hotel and took forever. Perhaps we were simply unlucky with the staff.
Check in
To pass the time, we received two vouchers for a fruit punch at reception. We were supposed to redeem these in the windowless sports bar "Rimbar Lounge," which is really only suitable for watching football. After finishing our fruit juice, we were finally able to move into our chalet, to which we were taken by a small shuttle bus.

What are the rooms (Rainforest Chalet) like at the Berjaya Langkawi Resort?
The condition of our Rainforest Chalet was okay – though not quite up to 4-star standards. While the rooms had been renovated not too long ago, they already looked quite worn. However, there was nothing to complain about regarding cleanliness; the bed linens, bathroom, and everything else were spotless. The size of the chalet was adequate, although with two large suitcases, there was hardly any room to move around. Unfortunately, a busy ant trail ran right through the bathroom, which couldn't really be eradicated even with insect spray. The last negative point about the room was the leaky air conditioner. Despite this, it still cooled the room very pleasantly.

We absolutely loved the natural surroundings of our chalet. As the name suggests, we were truly in the middle of the rainforest. It was pure nature! So it's not uncommon for monkeys and other animals to appear outside the window. Therefore, you shouldn't leave anything on the balcony and should always keep the windows closed.

What does Berjaya Langkawi Resort offer?
The hotel itself is simply enormous and very sprawling. It feels more like a mass-production operation, which is particularly noticeable at breakfast. While the buffet selection is good and tasty, everything is presented without any care. At times, the staff can't keep up with replenishing the food. The selection includes both Western hot and cold dishes such as omelets, pancakes, and various types of bread, as well as Asian specialties.
The staff throughout the hotel could be a bit friendlier. Only by the pool were they consistently cheerful. Complaints, such as forgotten towels in the room, were dealt with quickly and delivered by moped.
The hotel's free shuttle buses are powered by gasoline engines, which are very loud and can be disruptive in the evenings. Switching to electric motors would not only benefit the environment! During peak hours, we sometimes had to wait a very long time for an available shuttle. Therefore, we always walked from our room to the lobby, as it was mostly downhill. However, the shuttle can also be ordered by phone from your room.

What does the Berjaya Langkawi Resort offer for relaxation?
The pool area is nicely designed, but rather small for so many hotel guests and more suitable for children to splash around in.
The beach at the Berjaya Langkawi Resort is an absolute highlight. It's wide and has beautiful white sand. While the water isn't perfectly clear, it's not a problem, as it's definitely refreshing. There are plenty of sun loungers and parasols available free of charge. All kinds of water sports are offered on the beach, and the hotel's entertainment program is displayed on a board by the pool. There's definitely something for everyone here.
