Booking, arrival and check-in
For our stay at the Hilton Cairo Heliopolis, we decided, as usual, to book via the official Hilton website. This approach not only gives us status benefits, but also valuable points for the Hilton Honors bonus programme. The overnight stay in the originally booked King Guest Room cost around EUR 150, which is a reasonable price for a hotel of this category.

Our journey began in Marsa Alam, from where we flew back to Cairo with Egyptair. From the airport we used Uber, an extremely cheap and reliable means of transport in Cairo. It took us less than five minutes to reach the Hilton Cairo Heliopolis - a comfortable journey that saved us a lot of time. From the outside, the hotel is architecturally rather inconspicuous and not a visual highlight. We received an extremely friendly welcome at check-in in the lobby. What was particularly pleasing was that we had already received notification of a free upgrade to a King One Bedroom Suite Pool View in the morning, which was confirmed to us at check-in. This first impression aroused our anticipation for the stay and showed how much Hilton values the satisfaction of its guests, especially Hilton Honors members with status.

Where is Hilton Cairo Heliopolis located?
The Hilton Cairo Heliopolis is located in the upscale Heliopolis district, about 15 kilometres north-east of Cairo city centre and just a few minutes from Cairo International Airport. This strategic location is ideal for travellers who appreciate both quick access to the airport and proximity to the city's main attractions. In around 45 minutes you can reach the world-famous pyramids of Giza or the historic centre of Cairo, where the Cairo Citadel and the impressive Khan el-Khalili Bazaar are located. The new Egyptian Museum and Cairo Festival City are also within easy reach, making the Hilton Cairo Heliopolis the perfect base for cultural exploration and luxurious relaxation.
How are the rooms (King One Bedroom Suite Pool View) at Hilton Cairo Heliopolis?
The architecture and furnishings of the Hilton Cairo Heliopolis clearly showed that it had been around for a few years. The traces of time were particularly evident in the dark, heavy materials and the low ceilings, which gave the corridors to the rooms a slightly oppressive atmosphere. But first impressions were deceptive: our King One Bedroom Suite Pool View offered a surprising amount of space and some amenities that made the stay pleasant.

Our suite was located on the 6th floor, the top floor of the hotel, with a beautiful view of the inner courtyard and the pool. At 56 square metres, the suite had an impressively spacious layout: it consisted of a separate living room, a bedroom and a bathroom.

The living room was furnished with a small round table with three chairs, a sofa and a coffee table. A sideboard with a large TV, a minibar (which was empty) and a tea and coffee station provided additional comfort. A desk provided space for working or other activities and an adjoining guest toilet was particularly practical.

The sleeping area was furnished with a large king-size bed, which, however, did not offer the usual sleeping comfort due to the worn mattress. Two bedside tables and a sideboard with another TV and a built-in safe completed the room. In the corner, a small armchair with a side table invited guests to relax.

A passageway led from the bedroom into the bathroom, which was equipped with a large walk-in shower, a washbasin with ample storage space, WC and bidet. The age of the furnishings was also noticeable here, but the cleanliness and functionality were of a good standard.

Whilst the air conditioning was quiet and efficient, the noise level of the room was a major drawback - every guest walking down the corridor was clearly audible. The decor was clean and tasteful, but the room would benefit from a fresher and more modern design. Overall, despite its age, the King One Bedroom Suite Pool View at the Hilton Cairo Heliopolis offered a pleasant stay with its spacious layout and practical details. However, a more modern bed and better soundproofing could increase the level of comfort.
How is breakfast at the Hilton Cairo Heliopolis?
Breakfast at the Hilton Cairo Heliopolis was served daily from 6am to 11am in the ‘My Kind of Place’ restaurant. The restaurant was spacious and offered a variety of seating areas furnished with heavy, dark wooden chairs, creating a rather classic atmosphere.

The buffet left nothing to be desired and impressed with its variety. There was an egg station offering freshly prepared omelettes, fried eggs or scrambled eggs, as well as a selection of hot dishes that catered to both western and oriental flavours. Particularly impressive was the selection of cheese, fish and cold meats, which included both international classics and regional specialities. The range was rounded off by a large selection of baked goods and fresh fruit. Unfortunately, we found that some of the baked goods were a little dry, but this hardly detracted from the overall impression.

The coffee was served directly at the table, which rounded off the morning's enjoyment and ensured a relaxed start to the day. Breakfast at the Hilton Cairo Heliopolis was an ideal opportunity to fuel up for the day and the wide selection reflected the high standard of the hotel.
How is the Executive Lounge at the Hilton Cairo Heliopolis?
The Executive Lounge of the Hilton Cairo Heliopolis was located on the ground floor towards the restaurants and was open daily from 7.00 am to 11.00 pm. Guests with an Executive room or higher and Hilton Honors members with Diamond status had access to this exclusive area. Access was controlled by staff who checked the room number and name of guests to ensure a pleasant and private atmosphere. Breakfast was served from 7am with a selection of hot and cold dishes. A small tea time with snacks and pastries followed between 3pm and 5pm, before happy hour began from 7pm to 9pm.

The lounge consisted of a regular seating area with sofas and armchairs and an additional area opposite, which served as an extension when there was greater demand. During the day, guests were offered soft drinks such as Pepsi and 7Up in cans, water in plastic bottles, juices and coffee from a fully automatic machine. Snacks such as pretzels were available to satisfy small appetites.

During happy hour, the drinks selection was supplemented by local beer, red and white wine and a small mixing station with vodka and orange juice. However, no other spirits were available. During this time, the buffet offered various hot and cold snacks, including cold meat and cheese platters, vegetables, small gratins and desserts such as small cakes and fruit skewers. Unfortunately, the dishes were not labelled, so it was sometimes difficult to identify what was on offer.

The service in the lounge left a positive impression: the always well-dressed staff cleared the used crockery quickly and replenished the buffet regularly. The only point of criticism was the location of the lounge. Due to the open design to the lobby and the neighbouring restaurants, it could occasionally be noisy, which impaired the comfort somewhat.
What does the Hilton Cairo Heliopolis offer for relaxation?
The Hilton Cairo Heliopolis offered a wide range of opportunities for rest and relaxation. The two large swimming pools in the hotel's inner courtyard deserve special mention. Here we found plenty of sunbeds with towels provided. There was also a health club in the hotel, which housed both a fitness centre and a spa. Although we didn't use the fitness centre, it was well equipped and offered everything you need for an extensive workout.

Summary
The Hilton Cairo Heliopolis impressed us with its excellent location close to the airport and offered many amenities such as spacious rooms, a varied breakfast and two large swimming pools. We found the Executive Lounge particularly pleasant, even if the open-plan location did cause some noise. The comfort was somewhat spoilt by details such as the sagging mattress and the noisy rooms, but the service was first class throughout. Overall, the Hilton Cairo Heliopolis is a solid hotel with some room for improvement that is a good choice for both cultural and leisure trips.
