Hilton Garden Inn Davos

Hilton Garden Inn Davos

We are passionate snowboarders and have often explored the Alps in winter. But this time we wanted to experience the region in summer. The Alps offer an abundance of exclusive hotels in Austria and Switzerland, but chain hotels are rather rare. We chose the Hilton Garden Inn Davos, and in this hotel review we share our experiences and impressions with you.

Arrival and check-in

Due to a traffic jam in Bregenz on the beautiful Lake Constance, our journey to Davos was delayed considerably. So we didn't arrive at the Hilton Garden Inn Davos until the evening. We were warmly welcomed there when we checked in. We were upgraded from our reserved room to one of the two available junior suites. As a benefit for our HHonors Gold status, we also received two bottles of water.

In addition to many tips for excursions and hikes that are also possible with a stroller, we also received the guest card for the Davos-Klosters region. This means, for example, that we can use the mountain railways for free. We will publish another article about the Davos region and our time there in the next few weeks. In it we will also describe all the advantages of the guest card.

What are the rooms (Junior Suite) like at the Hilton Garden Inn Davos?

Our junior suite (room number 328) was on the third floor of the hotel and was separated from the hallway by an additional door. At 48 square meters, the suite was sufficiently large and spacious. In total we had a living room, a walk-in closet, a bedroom and finally a large bathroom at our disposal. The furniture was covered in brown wood veneer. The rest of the furnishings and lighting also appeared harmonious and elegant at the same time.

living room

After entering our suite through the heavy, well-soundproofed front door, there was a walk-in closet on the left. Here we found countless storage options and also a safe the size of a laptop.

In the living room itself there was a comfortable sofa with a coffee table and two armchairs. On the wall opposite the sofa there was a lowboard with an integrated desk. Here we liked the many storage spaces that were available in addition to the 32″ LCD television, a built-in refrigerator, a kettle with instant coffee or tea and the work area. There was no shortage of free sockets in this hotel room. At the desk alone there was space for a Schuko plug (plug type F) and three Euro plugs (plug type C). The fast WiFi connection was free as we are HHonors members (Register here for free), and could be used by any number of devices at the same time. Both the bedroom and the living room were equipped with air conditioning, which could be controlled separately via an LCD touchscreen.

bedroom

The sleeping area was separated from the living area by a smooth-running sliding door. The division into two rooms was perfect for us. This meant our little son (6 months) could sleep peacefully in the bedroom in the evening. The hotel had also thought of a baby bed including bed linen. For us parents there was a very comfortable and pleasantly hard double bed (king size). There was a bedside table with a socket and light switch on both sides of the bed. Of course, the obligatory Hilton clock radio was also a must. In the left corner of the room there was an armchair with an ottoman and a small side table. The lowboard opposite the bed was identical to the one in the living room. Only the refrigerator was missing. But who needs two refrigerators? :)

Balcony with a view of the Alps

There was a balcony attached to both the bedroom and the living room. From here we enjoyed the wonderful view to the south of the Alpine panorama. The Swiss celebrate their national holiday on August 1st. So we were very lucky to be greeted by sensational fireworks on the day we arrived.

bathroom

The bathroom was equipped with a shower and bathtub. The care products provided came from Peter Thomas Roth. In contrast to the living room and bedroom, there was unfortunately hardly any storage space in the bathroom. These were only available to a limited extent around the sink. A soap dish and a shelf in the shower were also missing.

Breakfast

Breakfast was included in the room rate and was served in the lobby of the hotel restaurant “The Grill”. The very friendly restaurant manager led us to one of the sufficiently available and set tables. The various coffee specialties and freshly prepared dishes (waffles, omelettes, French toast or fresh egg dishes) were served by the service staff on site. Of course there was also a rich breakfast buffet. Cold cuts, Swiss cheese, jam, spreads, various types of yoghurt and fresh fruit salad were offered in a refrigerated counter. The typical warm dishes such as scrambled eggs or bacon were served in warming containers at the counter in the open kitchen. Of course there were also various types of bread, rolls and pastries as well as muesli.

dinner

In the summer months it is not easy to find an open restaurant in Davos. Many restaurants only open during the high season between October and May. The restaurant “The Grill” at the Hilton Garden Inn, on the other hand, is open daily from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

The menu offers fresh regional and international dishes. We ordered the homemade ravioli with asparagus and alpine macaroons. This Swiss specialty consisted of pasta and potatoes in a cream sauce and gratinated with mountain cheese. There was also a small portion of applesauce. Both dishes were very tasty and the size was okay.

True to the motto “… there is always room for dessert!” On the recommendation of the restaurant manager, we ordered a chocolate cake with a passion fruit sorbet as dessert. The cake was filled with a liquid chocolate center as requested. There were also roasted pine nuts. Delicious!

We paid a total of 71 CHF (approx. 64 EUR) for two main courses, a dessert and a drink each. This puts the restaurant “The Grill” in the middle price segment in Davos.

What does the Hilton Garden Inn Davos offer for relaxation?

Now you don't necessarily have to go to the sauna in summer. But after a long hike it couldn't hurt, I thought. Since most of the guests felt the same way during our stay, I was all alone in the wellness area in the basement of the Hilton Garden Inn Davos. The best conditions for relaxing in peace!

Lounge in the wellness area of the Hilton Garden Inn Davos

I took a bathrobe with me from our hotel room. In the wellness area there were enough towels and of course a changing room with lockers. From a small lounge there was a 90°C sauna on the left and a steam bath on the right. There was also an infrared cabin, a water dispenser, an option for a foot bath and, as a highlight after the sauna session, an experience shower (bucket with cold water). For those who don't like the cold blast, there was also a normal shower with a rain shower. Between sauna sessions I relaxed in the next room. There were several loungers there and magazines were also available. I would have liked quiet background music in both the relaxation room and the relaxation room.

We didn't use it, but for the sake of completeness I would like to mention the fitness center in my hotel review. In this case I cannot judge the quality of the equipment or the training options. However, I found the room to be well equipped compared to other hotels.

Service im Hilton Garden Inn Davos

There was a business center in the lobby of the hotel. This is open 24 hours and every hotel guest can fax, copy, print or use one of the two PCs there free of charge. There was a small shop right next to the reception. All kinds of snacks and drinks were offered here, but also not so everyday things like bicycle inner tubes.

Free parking is hardly possible throughout Davos. Next to the Hilton Garden Inn Davos there are only six parking spaces that can be used free of charge. The underground car park under the hotel offers enough space. However, this also costs CHF 18 per day. Great for active holidaymakers with mountain bikes: we found a washing box for the bike in the underground car park. In the basement of the hotel there was also a ski room and a coin-operated washing machine with dryer.

Our stay at the Hilton Garden Inn Davos was at the invitation of the hotel. At this point, thank you again for the good cooperation and support. This article represents our free and independent opinion. More on the topic of journalistic independence at Cooperation.

Summary

The Hilton Garden Inn Davos offers stylish, spacious and very clean rooms. The location of the hotel is ideal, only the passing one-way street disturbs the enjoyment of the Alps. The staff was always courteous and helped us with numerous excursion tips. This makes the Hilton Garden Inn Davos the perfect alpine hotel for us, whether it's summer or winter.
