In May 2023, we spent five nights on the Mediterranean island of Cyprus. Looking for a base to explore the breathtaking beauty and rich culture of this fascinating island, our path led us straight to the stunning Hilton Nicosia in the island's vibrant capital. With a perfect blend of first-class service, contemporary ambience and luxurious amenities, this hotel proved to be our perfect choice.
Booking, arrival and check-in
As always, we booked the Hilton Nicosia directly through the Hilton website. Only with a direct booking you receive status benefits in the Hilton Honors program and can collect points for free nights. For our stay we use another advantage of the bonus program, namely the possibility to redeem our collected bonus points for overnight stays. An overnight stay cost 40,000 points in our period and for our booked five nights we only need the points for four nights.
Due to the late arrival from Athens, we were only at the hotel around 9 p.m. We were already expected at the reception and check-in was very quick. Unfortunately, the friendly employee also had bad news for us. Since the hotel was fully booked, we, as status guests, could not be given an upgrade to a better room.
Where is the Hilton Nicosia located?
The Hilton Nicosia is currently the only hotel in the Hilton chain on the Mediterranean island. It is located in the business district of the city, which, by the way, is the last divided capital in the world. Getting to the sights in the city center may require a taxi or rental car. There is ample free parking in front of the hotel.
What are the rooms (King Pool View) like at the Hilton Nicosia?
Our King Pool View room was on the 3rd floor and had the layout of a classic hotel room. Upon entering the room, there was a large closet on the right hand side, which also housed the safe and minibar. The mini bar was empty except for two large bottles of water which were refilled daily free of charge. On the left was the modern and neutrally designed bathroom with shower. It was positive that there were more than enough amenities in the bathroom, since these were not only available next to the sink, but also in the shower.
The rest of the room was very plain and without much decoration, which we personally liked very much. There was a king-size bed against the wall with a bedside table on each side. In addition, there was a sitting area with a round table and two armchairs of different sizes. These seemed a bit pushed into the corner, but that was due to the additional bed for our son. By the way, this was very comfortable and no ordinary folding bed. I also noticed the many international sockets and USB ports in different places in the room.
For us as status guests there were unfortunately no further attentions at the beginning of our stay apart from the impossible room upgrade. Neither a welcome letter nor a gift like chocolates or the like were in the room. The latter was then presented to us as a gift when we left.
What is the breakfast like at the Hilton Nicosia?
Breakfast at the Hilton Nicosia is served at the Olympia restaurant in the hotel's lobby. The rich buffet offers a diverse selection of delicacies from international and local cuisine and leaves nothing to be desired. From freshly baked breads and pastries to a selection of cold meats, cheeses and fresh fruit, to hot items like eggs, sausage and bacon, there's something for every taste.
We had breakfast every morning on the large terrace under the palm trees. However, there is also a seating area inside the restaurant.
What is the Executive Lounge like at the Hilton Nicosia?
The Hilton Nicosia Executive Lounge was located in the hotel lobby across from the reception. It was open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. and access was via the unlocked room card. The lounge featured a long bar table for dining and working, several tables with chairs in the buffet area, and a slightly raised seating area with comfortable armchairs and leather sofas.
The range of drinks at the buffet was very extensive for a hotel lounge. During our stay, alcoholic beverages were constantly on offer, not just during happy hour, as is usual. Although there were no spirits during the day, there was wine, three different types of beer and sparkling wine. And of course there were also non-alcoholic drinks. Here there was not the same thing as in other lounges, but also Red Bull or ice tea. Of course there was also coffee and tea.
During the day there were small snacks such as dried fruit and crackers. Various hot and cold snacks were then served at the Happy Hour, which took place daily from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Hilton Nicosia. On the first evening, for example, there was penne with scampi, a mushroom cream soup, various sandwiches and a selection of cheeses. However, the rather small dishes cannot replace a complete dinner. In addition to the food, wines, beers and spirits were also offered.
What does the Hilton Nicosia offer for recreation?
During our stay at the Hilton Nicosia we had the pleasure of using the hotel's beautiful pool area and I have to say it far exceeded our expectations. The hotel has a large courtyard pool surrounded by palm trees, a true oasis of relaxation. There is a pool bar with service on site and small free snacks, such as e.g. B. Melon. Another positive aspect was the sufficient number of loungers. No matter what time of day we visited the pool area, there were always enough sun loungers. In addition, towels are provided to hotel guests free of charge.
The hotel also has a large fitness center with a variety of machines and weights. As a hotel guest, we were also able to test the spa area in the basement. However, we were a little disappointed here. Because the sauna was unfortunately broken and the steam room was not in the best condition. Also, there were only two options to rest after the sauna session. There was also a small swimming pool. However, the water quality was very bad and there was a small oil film on the water surface.
