The Lounge Leipzig/Halle

The Lounge Leipzig/Halle

At the end of 2023, the time had finally come: The Lounge Leipzig/Halle was opened at my home airport Leipzig/Halle. During the Corona pandemic, the Lufthansa lounges in Leipzig and at many other smaller airports in Germany were completely shut down. And even when travel activity increased again in 2022, the lounges remained closed. So it was good news to discover this new lounge and see what it has to offer before my flight from Leipzig to Frankfurt.

Where is The Lounge Leipzig/Halle located?

The Lounge Leipzig/Halle is located on the upper floor of the departures building, opposite the waiting area for the airport's few departure gates. Since the distances in Leipzig are very short, you can't really miss The Lounge. After the security check, you go through the duty free shop and then take the front escalator upstairs. Once at the top, the Airport Lounge is on the right-hand side. The Lounge is open daily from 05:00 to 21:00.

Who has access to The Lounge Leipzig/Halle?

The Lounge Leipzig/Halle is a classic contract lounge of the provider Global Lounge Network. Access is available to members of Priority Pass, Lounge Key, Lounge Pass, OnPass and Global Lounge Network. In addition, admission can be purchased on site for EUR 30.00 per person, regardless of membership and airline. Whether it's worth it, you can easily decide for yourself after my lounge review. I used The Lounge via the Priority Pass, which comes with the American Express Platinum is free of charge.

What are the amenities at The Lounge Leipzig/Halle?

The lounge is located in the former Lufthansa Business Lounge (here you can find our lounge review). The part of the former Senator Lounge is dark and serves as storage and retreat for the lounge staff. However, the area is without privacy and without any recognizable demarcation, so that everything is visible from the entrance, creating a very messy and makeshift impression.

The furniture in the lounge is the same as it was in the days of Lufthansa. There are various leather armchairs and sofas available in light to dark brown. Only the relaxation loungers have disappeared. The mural is also still there. In the buffet area there are still three tables with blue chairs, which were already there in Lufthansa times. There is also a work corner with four desks with privacy screens. Unfortunately, the lounge does not have its own toilets. The toilets are located in the common area near the lounge entrance.

What is there to eat and drink at The Lounge Leipzig/Halle?

Since the furniture of the buffet has been completely taken over from Lufthansa's inventory, the food on offer is also similar to the past. There were three hot dishes, including a kind of Kaiserschmarren, but also fruit and yoghurt as well as various cold cuts and rolls. Since I visited The Lounge Leipzig/Halle on a Sunday afternoon, there were also two different cakes and snacks on the small buffet.

The range of drinks was manageable, but sufficient. The non-alcoholic beverages included Sprite, Coke, Tonic, Bitter Lemon, coffee in various variants from the fully automatic machine, tea in different varieties and two juices. In addition, there were various beers, wine and some spirits such as vodka, rum, Lillet, Aperol or whiskey.

Summary

Overall, you don't feel as welcome in the lounge as you used to. The friendly Lufthansa staff is missing and the service has dropped sharply. The ambience is more like a waiting hall and the open warehouse in the former Senator Lounge makes a very messy and makeshift impression. The range of food and drinks on offer has remained almost the same. All in all, I'm happy that there is a lounge at my home airport again, but there is definitely room for improvement.

I've been there 6 times. Plane often from Leipzig.

Personally, I think it's very nice there. The food is always super delicious 🤤. Breakfast as well as lunch. Berlin can't keep up with that, they only have a coffee there.

Leipzig great staff always very friendly. Very clean everything there. And you have everything you need before departure. To relax again. And have a good time.

I can only recommend it personally. 👍
