Kuala Lumpur – KL Tower, Chinatown and Little India

Nasi Lemak

We landed at Kuala Lumpur Airport for the third time. Already familiar with the routes, within a few minutes we were on the 8 Ringgits expensive shuttle bus to KL Sentral. We had that for the two nightsMaytower Hotelin the immediate vicinity of the city center of Kuala Lumpur. Our room was on the 24th floor of the four star hotel. We could also use a pool and even a sauna on the 8th floor. Overall a very passable hotel.

Times Square shopping mall

We spent the first evening in the Times Square shopping center. On at least ten floors there are several hundred small shops, restaurants and even a theme park with a roller coaster. We sampled the food at the Chicken Rice Factory and treated ourselves to a Krispy Kreme donut for dessert.

Kuala Lumpur Tower

Back in the city center we climbed the 90 meter high Bukit Nanas on which the Kuala Lumpur Tower is located. At 421 meters, it is the tallest television tower in Malaysia and the sixth tallest building in the world.

Chinatown

Then we walked to Chinatown. Bodo tried a few Asian specialties there, which we got as a tip from a local on the plane. He ate nasi lemak and roti chanei. The first is a lump of rice wrapped in a banana leaf with a spicy sauce and a fried egg. The Roti Chanei was found at an Indian kiosk and is a type of bread that comes with a spicier soup.

Essen in Little India

Before we flew on to Phuket in the evening, we stopped at a restaurant in Little India. There we ordered chicken beriyani. Again the food was served to us on a banana leaf. Typically Indian there was no cutlery and we had to eat our rice and chicken with our fingers. This kind of thing is a bit unusual for me and I don't find it really practical either, because afterwards your hands just stick together - Bodo had no problems with that.
