Montréal

After the typical American breakfast in theLa Quinta Plattsburghwe packed our car again and made our way to Montréal in Canada. Shortly before the entrance to Interstate I-87 N, we stopped at a Lowe's hardware store. While caching in the past few days, we often found small magnetic boxes, which are actually intended for depositing front door keys. We got hold of various models and are already looking forward to hiding them in Germany.

After 37 kilometers of driving north, we reached the border with Canada. The officer took his task very seriously and asked umpteen questions about our origin, reason for travel and return journey. The detail of the control was probably due to the lack of border traffic.

Montréal: Olympic Park

Unser erstes Ziel in Montreal war der Olympia-Park. Einen Parkplatz hatten wir schnell in der Wohngegend gefunden und auf ging es, bei sommerlichen Temperaturen, zum Olympiastadion, mit dem markant geneigten 175m hohen Turm. Leider hatten wir nicht ganz so viel Zeit und so wollten wir so schnell wie möglichen, soviel wie möglich sehen. Dazu kam es aber gar nicht erst, denn montags hat leider im Olympia-Park alles geschlossen. Zu dem wurde auch noch an allen Ecken und Enden gebaut! Hat das 38 Jahre alte Stadion aber auch nötig. Somit gingen wir nur um das Stadion ringsherum, machten ein paar Bilder und fuhren dann weiter Richtung Innenstadt.

The navigation system really misled us here, because the addresses we had picked out were not correct at all. But we still found our way downtown and went to the tourist information first. There we got a map and a personal consultation with a personally compiled program for our day in Montréal. Great service!

Montréal: Marie Reine du Monde Cathedral

The first thing on our agenda was the Marie Reine du Monde cathedral. It's really great, because it's the small copy of St. Peter's Basilica in Rome. If I hadn't seen it myself, I wouldn't believe it, but that's the way it is. Beautiful! Real!

Montréal: Mont Royal

Über den Place Ville Marie und die McGill Universität ging es anschließend zum Parkeingang des Mont Royal. Die Uni ist wirklich schön, am Rand des Berges (Mont Royal) sehr idyllisch gelegen. Dann ging es steil bergauf, denn der Mont Royal ist 233m hoch und der muss erst einmal erklommen werden. Es war wirklich anstrengend, aber das lag wohl eher an dem warm-schwülen Wetter. Oben angekommen waren wir echt überwältigt. Dieser Aufstieg lohnt sich auf jeden Fall, denn die Aussicht ist einfach genial. Hier Tummeln sich auch alle Touristen und wollen Fotos von einem gemacht haben. Ständig wird man angesprochen, ob man ein Foto machen könne, aber da ist man ja absolut freundlich.

Then we went downhill again and to our rental car. Our accommodation for that night was theBEST WESTERN PLUS Brossard. A nice hotel, even if it is a bit old.
