SWISS Airbus A320-200 Economy Class, Berlin to Nice

SWISS A320-200 am Gate A10

After I have had the frequent flyer status "Star Alliance Gold" for over a year now, but unfortunately had no time for further flights due to the completion of my master's degree and a move, we were able to fly today on our trip with SWISS (here book) after Nice finally reap the benefits.

In the early morning we drove from Halle (Saale) to Berlin-Tegel Airport. After we had parked our car in a parking lot about 5km away, we took a minibus to the airport. I had already checked in online for our flight with SWISS via Zurich to Nice the evening before. But since I collect the boarding passes of my flights, we also printed them out at the machine. We then handed in our suitcase at the Lufthansa First Class counter. This didn't give us any time advantage today, as the normal switch was almost deserted, but as the saying goes: "If you have, you can!" :)

Lufthansa Senator Lounge (Berlin-Tegel)

After everything was done, we went up one floor to Lufthansa's Senator Lounge. First we noticed the tranquility and the atmosphere associated with it. No more clacking of any suitcases or the voices of crowds of people chatting "wildly through the area".

There is a sufficiently sized seating area. This consists of comfortable leather seats, which are arranged in small seating groups. Electrical outlets are available in each group. The free Wi-Fi is offered by T-Mobile.

A buffet including a small bar was available for tasting. We found the offer to be sufficient. There were all kinds of spirits, wine/sparkling wine, coffee and soft drinks. Hot dishes included a very tasty Thai Green Curry Soup and Nuremberg specialties. In addition, there was a selection of potato salad, Spreewald cucumbers, mixed salad, sandwiches and pretzels.

Twenty minutes before the actual boarding of our flight to Zurich (LX 967), a delay of at least 20 minutes was announced over the loudspeaker. Our first concerns were about our connecting flight to Nice. However, the competent staff at the entrance was able to calm us down, as it was already delayed. At our actual departure time at 2:50 p.m., the LX 966 from Zurich landed in Berlin. According to the scoreboard, our flight was supposed to take off at 3:15 p.m. So we left the lounge and went to Gate A10.

Flight to Zurich and SWISS Senator Lounge

The flight to Zurich went without any problems. We sat in row 5 directly behind the curtain to business class. There was a pretty sweet Linz tartlet to eat. After a somewhat turbulent approach to Zurich, we arrived there at 4:50 p.m. The flight to Nice (LX 560) with a departure time of 5:30 p.m. was listed on the scoreboard. So we had a little more time to look into the SWISS Senator Lounge. This is much more modern and comfortable than the one in Berlin. There was a great range of food and drinks. The highlight of our visit was a delicious Mövenpick ice cream.

The plane, just like the previous one, was almost fully booked. This time, a butter pretzel, still partially frozen, was served with the meal. After a great approach along the Côte d'Azur, we landed in Nice. Thanks to the "Priority" trailer, the luggage arrived quite quickly on the conveyor belt.

Arriving in Nice

We had to take the free shuttle bus from Terminal 1 to Terminal 2, as this is where the rental car station is located. About the websitebilliger-mietwagen.deI had already booked a Citroen C4 with Avis in advance. Due to availability, we were finally assigned an Opel Astra. This had a pleasingly good equipment, including leather, automatic climate control and cruise control.

After a short stop at the supermarket, we drove to our accommodation for the coming week. The booked apartment was a bit small (20sqm) but sufficient for the two of us. The best part was the great view from our terrace of the bay of Nice.

Summary

Lufthansa's subsidiary SWISS offers good value for money on domestic European flights. The cabin crew was very friendly and accommodating. The range of food and drinks is more than sufficient for Economy Class.
