Emirates First Class in the Airbus A380-800 from Bangkok to Hong Kong

Emirates First Class im Airbus A380 - Kabine

I've been waiting for this moment for a long time - my first flight with the Airbus A380! To make my first flight on this model as unique as possible, I treated myself to a First Class ticket. Emirates Airline, based in Dubai, offers an affordable ticket for the Bangkok – Hong Kong route, even for those who are crazy about flying on a normal income. Find out in the following review whether a flight in Emirates First Class in the Airbus A380 is worth it!

Emirates First Class check-in at Bangkok Airport

For us, however, the Emirates First Class experience began long before the actual flight. We took the Airport Express from downtown Bangkok to Suvarnabhumi International Airport, about 30 kilometers away. With firm steps and full of anticipation, we walked down the red carpet to the exclusive First Class counter. No queuing forever with the "wood class" customers. However, before we got into conversation with the lady at the counter, another member of staff asked us if we had really chosen the right path. With a broad grin on our face and the statement "Yes, we are flying first class!" we answered in the affirmative.

The Emirates Lounge Bangkok

In addition to our flight ticket, we received an invitation to the lounge and a pass to use the Premium Lane at the airport. This security check and exit check, specially set up for premium airline customers, saves valuable time. So we got even faster into the exclusive waiting area of Emirates.

Emirates First Class in the Airbus A380 – Boarding EK384

Shortly after 1 p.m. we left the lounge and went to departure gate E4, where the A380 was already waiting for us. In order to fill the two existing passenger decks of the Airbus in an acceptable time, there are three passenger boarding bridges in Bangkok.

We were allowed to use the right bridge for the upper deck with the other First and Business passengers. When we arrived at the aircraft door, we were greeted personally and escorted to our respective seats. Space is actually an understatement at Emirates - it's a suite! Although Bodo was sitting in a row in front of me, we were so separated from each other by the suite that we could no longer see or understand each other. Therefore, I will now continue to write this blog post from my perspective.

After a greeting from the purser, followed by an explanation of the seat and the other devices in my suite (4A), there was another glass of champagne before the pushback. This time a Dom Pérignon from 2002.

Emirates First Class in the Airbus A380 – tour of my suite

I used the time until the start to familiarize myself with my suite. The Central Control Unit is an easy-to-use touchscreen controller. This controls the seat, the integrated massage function, the lighting, the entertainment system and more.

What is the seat like in Emirates First Class on the Airbus A380?

The leather seat can be moved steplessly into any desired position. Seven zones can be configured electronically, from the headrest to the footrest. For faster setup, there are multiple memory buttons (Takeoff, Lounge, Dining, etc.) to choose from. Each suite is equipped with a 25 inch (approx. 64 cm) LCD display. The ice entertainment system runs on it with umpteen videos on demand, music and other gimmicks. However, I only used the different camera perspectives of the plane and listened to some current chart music. The headphones remove the ambient noise and offer a great sound.

Each passenger also has the opportunity to increase their privacy through the electrically adjustable sliding door. There is a small minibar and a basket with snacks for individual supplies.

I was amazed at how quiet it was in the cabin. The four GP7200 engines were barely audible even during takeoff. On the monitor I followed how the captain slowly pulled the machine up.

Then it was time to study the menu and wine list, which were handed out shortly before the start. Due to the short flight time, there was only one "light meal" to choose from.

Emirates First Class - Appetizer

As a starter I chose the smoked salmon with pineapple, celery and apple salad. There was also a mixed salad with different dressings.

Emirates First Class - Main course

Shortly thereafter, the warm main course was served to me. I had red snapper, placed on a tomato sauce, on sautéed potato slices with fresh spinach and red peppers. Just delicious! I had the purser recommend me a French white wine (2007 vintage) from the Sancerre region.

Emirates First Class – Dessert

At the end of the menu there was a panna cotta with passion fruit and a 2003 Château Rieussec dessert wine.

Emirates First Class in the Airbus A380 – shower ten kilometers up

During a visit to the toilet before eating, I reported to the stewardess that I would like to use the shower on board. Yes, you read that right, there is a shower here! With a flight time of just 2 hours, some planning skills are required. Because of this, the purser hurried in serving the menu. I had just drunk my dessert wine when I heard from the nice stewardess: "Sir, your shower is now ready!".

She accompanied me to the washroom on the left and explained to me what to watch out for when taking a shower. Water is limited to five minutes, with the current remaining stock shown via a colored gauge. The water pressure is better than some hotels and I only used half of my shower time. A small display shows, among other things, the current flight altitude. Only now did I realize that I had just enjoyed a shower at an altitude of over 10 kilometers. Brilliant!

Visit to the bar

When I got back to my seat, the purser asked me if I would like another drink. As I looked at the cocktail menu, he told me about the lounge at the back of the plane. I had completely forgotten about this until now! He then accompanied us through Business Class to the end of the upper deck. Unfortunately, the bar had already prepared for the upcoming landing and we only had time for a photo.

I enjoyed the approach to Hong Kong with a champagne cocktail and a Mars. It's a shame that my first first class experience ended so quickly. At some point I would like to try it on a longer route. But the time will come!

Summary

Emirates First Class design is certainly not for everyone. I don't really like the golden applications and the light root wood either. Nonetheless, Emirates First Class is a terrific product in the sky. The service is extremely friendly and competent. Even the short route between Bangkok and Hong Kong was a delicious three course meal. A unique selling point of Emirates First Class is clearly the shower.

    Hello
was there really a box of candy on the flight?
I flew BKK-HKG-BKK First Class in May this year. I didn't see any of the delicacies, I was a bit disappointed. I would not have paid for the flight, I had an upgrade.

      Hello Torsten,
thank you for your comment. :)
Yes, this basket of sweets was on my flight. I think the contents were a small pack of chips, candy bars and nuts. My First Class flight with Emirates took place in December 2011. Perhaps the snack basket has been rationalized away. But the flight attendants would have had something for you. :)
      Many greetings
