Lufthansa Business Class in the Airbus A320-200 to Munich

Lufthansa Airbus A320-200 (D-AIZE - "Eisenach") am Flughafen Oslo

Lufthansa uses a solid, if not earth-shattering, product on short and medium-haul routes. In January we were able to extensively test the Lufthansa Business Class in the Airbus A320 on the way from Oslo to Munich. In the review you will find out how we experienced Business Class at Lufthansa in the new Europa cabin.

A loud hum woke us from our well-deserved sleep. Brief disorientation! Right, we were still in the hotel at Oslo Airport. As the parents of a boy who is now one year old, waking up before 5 a.m. is no longer an unfamiliar situation, but you still need new powers of persuasion to get up. The anticipation of the upcoming flight with Lufthansa (online booking*) Business Class in the Airbus A320 to Munich finally helped. After a short breakfast we made our way half asleep to the adjacent terminal building. Check-in was quick and uncomplicated. The only pity is that the SAS agent printed all flights on one ticket. Good for the environment - bad for the collection! Thanks to Fast Track, the security check was quickly behind us and we were already sitting in the SAS Gold Lounge for our second breakfast.

Lufthansa Business Class im Airbus A320 – Boarding LH2457

Since major renovations were taking place at Oslo Airport, we left the SAS Gold Lounge a little earlier and made our way to Gate E10. Although the Airbus A320-200 (registration D-AIZE, christened “Eisenach”) had spent the night in Oslo, boarding was delayed by 10 minutes. Priority boarding was respected and so we were among the first guests in Business Class. The boarding of the remaining passengers went really quickly, so that we were able to reverse from the gate five minutes before the actual departure time. Since the plane was parked overnight at Oslo Airport, we had to be de-iced before take-off. The whole process went very quickly and the pilot took off on time from runway 1L in the direction of Munich.

Lufthansa Business Class in the Airbus A320 – cabin

The cabin of the Lufthansa Airbus A320-200 has six seats per row as standard. In European Business Class, two passengers can sit on each side. In addition to my wife and I, there were only two other passengers in Business Class on the way to Munich. The seat itself is in no way different from a seat in Economy Class, with the exception of the unoccupied middle seat. Due to the thin backrest and the compartment for the magazines that has been moved upwards, it offers good legroom. I find the almost non-existent padding uncomfortable on longer flights and spoils the "Business Class" experience.

Lufthansa Business Class im Airbus A320 – Service

The service on short-haul flights in Lufthansa Business Class on the Airbus A320 usually began with the distribution of newspapers and magazines. Unfortunately, Lufthansa has now discontinued this service and only offers eJournals for download. The flight attendant distributed a note about this shortly before take-off. She probably felt the need to apologize for this management decision and included a small bar of Ritter Sport. For an Economy Class passenger, the eJournals portal with over 250 magazines and newspapers is definitely an asset, but in Business Class I expect printed copies.

After takeoff, the crew handed out a hot towel. Then, with the sun rising on the horizon, breakfast was served. This consisted of a cheese selection, a delicious slice of beef ham, a small jar of strawberry jam and a quark dish. I chose a croissant from a bread basket with a well-assorted selection of different delicacies. Breakfast, whether in business or economy class, is always a difficult meal for me. The quality of egg dishes is really bad. Therefore, I am very satisfied with the variant that was offered on this flight. Even if it really wasn't anything special.

The service was quick and friendly. Drinks were always offered or empty glasses refilled. My wife and I were always addressed by name. In summary, a textbook service!

Lufthansa Business Class in the Airbus A320 – arrival in Munich

For the landing in Munich we got the message from the cockpit about the bad weather. As announced, the airport was trapped under a low cloud cover and the outside temperature was -13 °C. It was much warmer in Oslo at -3 °C. However, there was more snow in Germany than in Norway.

The Airbus A320-200 docked at the new satellite terminal. Since our onward flight to Toronto also departed from here, we switched to the non-Schengen area and spent the waiting time in the Lufthansa Senator Lounge. You can find a review of the lounge, but one that is almost identical in construction in the Schengen area here.

Summary

The Lufthansa Business Class on short and medium-haul routes is undoubtedly not earth-shattering, but we don't find the product bad at all. If you know what you are getting, you can be quite satisfied with the Lufthansa Business Class in the Airbus A320, even on shorter flights. The service on our flight was very friendly and quick. The food offered was nothing special but tasty. Nevertheless, I am of the opinion that the price quoted for a ticket in Lufthansa Business Class on short and medium-haul routes is not necessarily justified.
