Turkish Airlines Boeing 777-300ER Comfort Class to Istanbul

Our eventful journey through Southeast Asia came to an end after more than seven weeks. For our flight home I had booked a ticket for the Turkish Airlines Boeing 777-300ER Comfort Class from Hong Kong to Istanbul. You can find out in the following trip report whether the surcharge for Premium Economy Class was worth it.

Arrival from Macau to Hong Kong

After our furious casino night we slept until just before check out at 12pm. Then we took the shuttle bus to the Macau Ferry Terminal. With a catamaran from First Ferry we crossed over to Kowloon in an hour.

Actually, we wanted to take the cable car to the Big Buddha on Lantau Island. But time was running out and the weather was anything but ideal. Visibility was sometimes less than 100 meters. So we decided to spend the remaining hours in Hong Kong in a Starbucks at the subway station Tung Chung. We used the time to record the events of the last few days for the blog. Shortly before 6 p.m. we took the S1 bus to the airport.

Turkish Airlines Boeing 777-300ER Comfort Class – Boarding

For our flight home I got a cheap ticket from Turkish Airlines to Istanbul in May. The ticket was a temporary price error on the Hong Kong-Istanbul-Los Angeles route in Comfort Class. This is a new cabin product from Turkish Airlines and is positioned between Economy and Business Class. At 10:35 p.m., we boarded the Boeing 777-300ER (registration: TC-JJM "Marmara") with excitement, but also with a little melancholy because of the end of our vacation.

Turkish Airlines Boeing 777-300ER Comfort Class – cabin and seat

Turkish Airlines Boeing 777-300ER Comfort Class – Service

The service was very friendly, sometimes the communication in English was a bit clumsy. Immediately after the start, canapés with shrimp or cocktail tomatoes on mozzarella were served. There was also a bowl of hazelnuts and for me a Turkish white wine and a Sprite.

Just before we flew around the Himalayas, dinner was served. I thought it was great that this, like all the other dishes, was served on porcelain dishes. There was a mixed salad with olive oil, wild salmon with broccoli and curry rice and a salad with meat. In addition, various warm rolls were served.

After the main course there was a mixed fruit salad, delicious chocolate and lemon cake and a cheese platter. Since the Turkish white wine wasn't quite my taste, I switched to the Chardonnay.

I think it would be nice if small menu cards were distributed before the meal. Since the taste on the plane is not that good, you know exactly what you just ate. It would also have been great if we already had our own chef on board, so that he could simply introduce himself.

The cabin lighting or the LED mood light installed here was then dimmed to enable the passengers to get a good night's sleep. Meanwhile, our plane meandered north past the Himalayas. The isolated villages were amazing, which we could clearly see despite an altitude of about 10 kilometers. Although there wasn't a single cloud in the sky and the view was therefore very clear, civilization could have been a maximum of 4 - 5 kilometers below us at these points. Since the moon was shining very brightly, I also saw isolated mountain ranges that were covered with snow. It must look really interesting in daylight.

Turkish Airlines Boeing 777-300ER Comfort Class - Breakfast

After a bit of sleep and two movies, we got breakfast roughly over the Caspian Sea. This consisted of scrambled eggs and a sandwich. In addition to the orange juice, I would have liked to have had a traditional Turkish coffee, but the filter variant also works in an emergency.

After 11 hours and 15 minutes we landed in Istanbul. We had to wait almost nine hours until we could fly on to Frankfurt with Lufthansa at 1:55 p.m.

This flight was uneventful! After 17 flights it was nice to have a German crew again. For the sake of completeness, I would like to mention at this point that there was a warm lunch for the three-hour flight. Here we got chicken with carrots and zucchini on rice and a chocolate bar.

After Bodo already said goodbye for this holiday with yesterday's blog post, I would like to do the same with the post. The seven weeks in Southeast Asia were incredibly eventful, interesting and definitely an experience of a lifetime. I'm glad that, down to the smallest details, everything went as we had planned during the months of preparation and that none of us were seriously ill. I'm glad that so many people have followed us here on the blog, which was mainly intended to remind us of some things later. Many thanks for that! At this point, I would especially like to thank our proofreader, who did a first-class job in Ilmenau, his home town. ("My pleasure.")

I would be happy if some readers would stop by again in the future. No later than mid-April next year, when another trip to the western United States is planned.
