After landing on the dream island of Langkawi, our personal shuttle service from the hotel The Danna Langkawi awaited us at the airport. They took our luggage and escorted us to the car. During the ride we got drinks and a cool towel to freshen up. Even if our journey from Singapore wasn't that long, something refreshing is always good in the heat.
Arrival and check-in
From the airport we drove about 20 minutes through small villages, partly through jungle and along the sea to the 5-star hotel The Danna Langkawi. The check-in was very friendly and quiet in a seating area. As in other hotels, we were asked for our passports and a credit card, with the difference that we didn't have to worry about anything else. No eternal queuing at the reception. For the waiting time, we were again served a signature drink (various juices, cinnamon and clove) with a cool cloth. Very attentive. The waiting time was especially sweetened by Nadja from the spa. She gave us a welcome massage which was wonderfully relaxing!
What are the rooms like in The Danna Langkawi?
Opened in 2010, the hotel has 125 elegantly furnished rooms. Both the exterior and the rooms are designed in typical British colonial style. The hotel has a beautifully planted courtyard. Around this are the various rooms and suites, bars and restaurants as well as all the amenities of a 5-star hotel on five floors.
The Danna Langkawi Hotel has eight different room types: Merchant (mountain or courtyard view), Grand Merchant (mountain view), Marina (marina view), Viceroy (sea view), Grand Viceroy (sea view), and finally, three different types of suites. All rooms at Danna Langkawi are decorated in the same style and have a balcony. There are only small differences in the size of the room (a suite is bigger, of course), the view and whether there is a coffee pod machine.
We were given a room of the Viceroy category with a king size bed. It is located on the top floor and offers wonderful views over the bay, the sea and the infinity pool from its own balcony. A dream! The 65 m² room is decorated with wooden furniture in British colonial style and has a very elegant look. In-room amenities include a minibar, coffee pod machine, 42-inch LCD TV with DVD player, and free Wi-Fi (acceptable speed).
In the large bathroom there are two sinks, a bathtub and a large rain shower with wooden floor. We found it very nice that you can open the bathroom through sliding doors to the room, which makes the whole room look even bigger. The bathroom is fully furnished with marble and the tables and furniture are also covered with marble countertops. Very classy.
The only minor criticism of this lovely room is the slightly too loud air conditioning. Also, we haven't figured out how to turn off the ceiling fan individually. But maybe we didn't look enough. But you shouldn't reduce a room to its air conditioning, because the rest was just perfect!
How is the breakfast at The Danna Langkawi?
Every morning we looked forward to the delicious breakfast. First there is a menu with various egg dishes such as eggs Benedikt, omelette or scrambled eggs, but also sweets such as pancakes or waffles are offered. The offer changes daily. All tea and coffee drinks will also be brought directly to the square. A highlight is certainly the champagne that is served for breakfast. It turns out to be sparkling wine, but in English the small subtle difference is not taken so seriously.
In addition to the egg dishes, which are served at the seat, you can also help yourself to a rich buffet. On the one hand, there is an Asian buffet (rice, noodles, curry, dim sum, sushi, etc.) and an intercontinental buffet with many different types of bread, cold cuts, cheese, muesli, lots of fruit, yoghurt, jam, peanut butter and so on. We were overjoyed and it just tasted great.
If it gets crowded at breakfast, it is not noticeable, as the rooms are separated individually and several large columns swallow the volume. A pianist plays to accompany the atmosphere. In the restaurant The Planter's, too, enough service staff are once again trying to replenish the buffet again and again and quickly remove the used dishes.
What does The Danna Langkawi offer for relaxation?
The Danna Langkawi offers a variety of recreational opportunities for all weather and ages. The library and billiards room invite you to linger – especially the library, where guests can borrow books or leave their own, creates a welcoming atmosphere. Board games are available in the playroom, which are especially popular in bad weather.
Another highlight is the spa area on the top floor: With seven single and two double rooms, all beautifully designed and pleasantly air-conditioned, relaxation is palpable as soon as you enter. The view from up here over the island is impressive and the changing rooms with showers and steam sauna provide additional relaxation. Next door is the fitness area, which surprised us with its good equipment and the lively use by the guests.
For families, there's a well-equipped kids' club with a games room, game consoles, and all-day care. In the evening, even a babysitter can be arranged.
The white-sand beach in front of the hotel is clean and has an exclusive vibe, as the location rarely allows other visitors to pass by. Towels are provided on each deck chair and the Wi-Fi extends to the beach. The sea water is pleasantly warm, although slightly cloudy as usual in Langkawi. The separate bathing area offers safety from jellyfish and allows undisturbed bathing pleasure.
In the infinity pool, which is the largest in Langkawi at 51.2 meters, there is ample space and various areas such as a swimming area, jacuzzi and shallow water. The staff is very attentive and always ensures clean loungers and fresh towels. There is free cold water at the pool bar and cocktails and small treats at happy hour from 5 p.m. Even during the day, the service staff surprises guests with free snacks – a small but welcome gift when relaxing in the sun.

Summary
All in all, our time at Danna Langkawi was unforgettable! Three elements are clearly in the foreground: luxury, relaxation and enjoyment. Little things like the welcome massage, the signature drink or the chocolates as a farewell ensure that you remember the time fondly. The service is top notch and the rooms are very nicely decorated and clean. The restaurants are at gourmet level. The food is super delicious and the price absolutely affordable. We would book a room at The Danna Langkawi again at any time, even if the luxury has its price. But if you want to treat yourself to something special on your trip to Asia, we can only warmly recommend this hotel.
Hello! I usually vacation in Europe, like this year in Malles South Tyrol, but I like this report so much that I should change it! The hotel just looks fantastic, which is impressively shown by the pictures. Thank you for this report and best regards
